Iran ready to expand technological coop. with EU

TEHRAN, Apr. 17 (MNA) – Iran’s VP for Science and Technology, while referring to the fact that the largest IT and biotechnological companies in the region are Iranian, called for closer cooperation with EU in the field of new technologies.

Sorena Sattari made the remarks in a meeting with Carlos Moedas, EU Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, in the Iranian capital on Sunday.

He highlighted the significance of implementing Iran-EU joint statement that was issued by EU chief Federica Mogherini and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Sat., saying advances in science is a global trend and Iran is ready to implement its commitments within the framework of scientific and technological cooperation with the European Union.

Moedas, for his part, hailed the joint statement as an important step toward the development of Iran-EU future relations, calling for Iran to have more participation in other joint projects with the European Union.

Iran-EU joint statement in the field of Science, Research and Innovation, stresses Iran´s participation in the EU Research and Innovation Programme Horizon 2020 and its complementary Euratom Programme.

In the separate statement that was agreed between Commissioner Carlos Moedas and his counterpart, Dr. Mohammad Farhadi the Iranian Minister for Science, Research and Technology and Dr. Sorena Sattari, the two sides vowed to share experience in the areas of technology and innovation, and encourage setting up partnerships with EU counterparts, knowledge-sharing, mobility of researchers, and participation in collaborative research activities in various areas.
